About the Author

Tracy is a writer, singer-songwriter, cancer survivor and proud wife and mother. Born and raised in Central New York, she will tell you that her parents gave her the two best tools in her arsenal by reading to her and raising her in a Christian household. In spite of the long Central NY winters she continues to live there with the husband that God created just for her, and the son who is her forever best story. In her heart, she feels that her gift of writing is a little piece of magic, and that it is both her privilege and grandest adventure to find new ways to stretch a hand out to touch the wonder of this vast universe God created.

Interview

What drew you to writing Fantasy?

I think it’s the freedom to create that really draws me most to Fantasy. There’s something about being able to travel anywhere your mind can take you that both intrigues and challenges me. I also find that the more I learn about this vast universe, the more intricate and purposefully designed I find it. The wonder of it all overwhelms me. I want to share that sense of wonder, the beauty and majesty of it, with others.

Which authors/books inspired you?

From a Fantasy perspective, Anne McCaffrey and C.S. Lewis are probably the big two. Anne made me fall in love with dragons, and Lewis let me know that I could weave magic and wonder at their deepest levels and still portray Christian values. Perhaps ironically, reading Stephen King is what made me fall in love with the heart of the story. With language and the power of words.

Why did you choose a prophecy story?

I think religion is a hugely dividing factor in the Christian world. Interpretation of the things we see and hear can be so subjective… and can go so wrong. I wanted to demonstrate how people with seemingly good intentions could go so far awry that they become the greatest threat to the truth.

The description reads like a coming of age story. Is that an accurate representation of the books?

Absolutely. Nova is only sixteen at the outset of book one. I picked this age because when I was sixteen, that age felt magical. I was old enough to begin to explore my beliefs and the world, but young enough that I was still innocent and filled with wonder. Nova faces some things a lot of young people face. Being different, getting bullied, an overprotective parent – again it’s the good intentions gone wrong – and in spite of these (and largely because of them) she begins down a path that will ultimately lead her to revelations about who and what she really is.

How many books are planned for the series and what can you tell us about them?

There are three full books completed so far: Book Two – Child of Destiny; and Book Three – Child of Grace. There are also two short-stories written: The Dragon Between Worlds (prequel) and The Making of Laura (character spin-off). I have at least two other short-stories or novellas that are yet to come. Unsure if there will be more than three books, but there is definitely an idea idling at the back of my mind for one more.

What are your future writing plans?

I have another series still in brainstorming phase. I’m also constantly exploring new genre blends. I have a Sci-Fi / Fantasy story – Twin Suns of Arterra – that I have dubbed a miniseries. It will be a set of novellas. The first one is written, the others yet to come. If you want a sneak peek, you might want to check out Wattpad (hint hint).

Is there anything extra you would like to share with us?

I suppose just a thought. This old world can be hard. It can pull you down. There’s enough violence and horror on the nightly news to make me cringe. I want my stories to uplift. To shine a light in the darkness. To give hope that in the end, there’s salvation to be found. Anyone willing to reach out and touch the wonder of this vast universe will find it just as I do. Glorious.
