Indie e-Con Scavenger Hunt 2018 - Stop #7

Hello! My name is Savannah Jezowski! I’m so excited to be visiting Rachel’s blog and sharing with you all a little bit about how my writing career began. Be sure to keep your eye open for the next clue you’re going to need on the Scavenger Hunt! Rachel hid it in here somewhere!

I began writing when I was in elementary, before I even knew what a paragraph was. My first book was about a wagon train and Native Americans, and I wrote it on lined paper, bound it with yarn, and design the cover with crayons. Yeah. It was awful. I hide it. At the bottom of a very large stack of other things I can’t throw away but don’t really want people to see. I also wrote a Star Wars story with my brother around this time (It’s equally awful, I’m sure, but because it’s STAR WARS I’m not as ashamed of this one because all authors write fan fiction at some point in their career…don’t they?)

I spent the next fifteen years or so writing awful novels that I will never do anything with. I got a few short stories published while I was in college, but it wasn’t until I heard about Rooglewood Press and their fairy tale contests that my writing really took off. I entered a story for the Cinderella collection which did not win, but my submission for Five Enchanted Roses DID make the cut. It was probably one of the most exciting times in my life, seeing my story in print and realizing for the first time that I COULD be a published author and that a whole new world of adventures were opening up for me.

Next, I began self-publishing. I finally put some of my college classes to good use and learned how to design my own covers and format my own books. I can do everything but edit my own books now, and even started my own Author Services business to help other authors like myself and fund my fledgling writing career. It’s hard to believe that five years ago I was still an unpublished author…now, I have two self-published books available, with a third one coming this summer, and two stories published in anthologies. It all began with crayons and bits of yarn, and awful writing and awful plots…and a whole lot of dreams and imagination.

About Me: Savannah Jezowski lives in a drafty farmhouse in Amish country with her Knight in Shining Armor, a wee warrior princess, and two English Springer Spaniels. She is the author of When Ravens Fall and The Neverway Chronicles. Her work has been published in Ray Gun Revival, Mindflights and in the student publication of Fountains at Pensacola Christian College. She is also a featured author in Five Enchanted Roses from Rooglewood Press and Mythical Doorways, a Fellowship of Fantasy Anthology. She likes books, faeries, writing hats, and having tea with her imaginary friends.
